چکیده

In heterogeneous networks such as today’s Internet, the differentiated services architecture for providing scalable service differentiation, has proved to be a practical and easily deployable method for providing Quality-of-Services. In this paper, we focus on the issue of packet marking in diffserv networks. We specifically look at developing fair aggregate markers which do not need to maintain per-flow state. We propose two new probabilistic marking strategies to enable fair token distribution among individual flows of an aggregate. The first marker, Probabilistic Aggregate Marker (PAM), uses the Token Bucket burst size to probabilistically mark incoming packets and ensure proportional fair marking among the flows. The second marker, Stateless Aggregate Fair Marker (SAFM) approximates fair queuing techniques to isolate flows while marking packets of the aggregate, and distributes tokens evenly among the flows without maintaining per-flow state. Our simulation results show that the two fair marking strategies show considerable improvement over standard token bucket techniques while marking flow aggregates. Fair Stateless Aggregate Traffic Marking Using Active Queue Management Techniques

In heterogeneous networks such as today’s Internet, the differentiated services architecture promises to provide QoS guarantees through scalable service differentiation. Traffic marking is an important component of this framework. In this paper, we propose two new aggregate markers that are stateless, scalable and fair. We leverage stateless Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms to enable fa...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

Link-Based Fair Aggregation: A Simple Approach to Scalable Support of Per-Flow Service Guarantees

To support service guarantees in packet-switched networks, three approaches have been proposed. They are the Stateless Core (SCORE) approach, the Integrated Services (IntServ) approach, and the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) approach. The granularities of service guarantees provided by these approaches at each router are respectively packet level, flow level, and class level. In this paper,...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

An Edge-based Admission Control for Differentiated Services Network

This paper presents an edge-based admission control scheme for Differentiated Services (DiffServ) networks. In our scheme, admission control decisions are performed at the edge routers according to the core router’s available resource information obtained by sending probing packets along the selected routing path. The scheme consists of four elements: (1) local measurement, (2) available bandwi...
